With Equity at the Center of Everything We Do!

Diversity and equity resources are provided to support the educational benefits of diversity and inclusive excellence at MCC.


This list is to stimulate thinking and to offer a starting point.

With Middlesex one 71 colleges in the nation to host a campus-based center, MCC's Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) serves as our on-campus resource to engage in the ongoing practice of racial healing and to build deeper collective capacity toward racial equity and justice.

Conferences

Attendees will have the opportunity to examine ways to reduce racial, ethnic and economic isolation; learn about innovative programs that infuse multicultural education into the curriculum; highlight the work of exceptional individuals and programs engaged in teaching tolerance; discuss effective strategies in implementing multicultural education; encourage excellence in teaching and learning to meet students' diverse needs; and explore working toward more equitable schools and communities. 

The annual White Privilege Conference (WPC) serves as a yearly opportunity to examine and explore difficult issues related to white privilege, white supremacy and oppression. WPC provides a forum for critical discussions about diversity, multicultural education and leadership, social justice, race/racism, sexual orientation, gender relations, religion and other systems of privilege/oppression. WPC is recognized as a challenging, empowering and educational experience. The workshops, keynotes and institutes not only inform participants, but engage and challenge them, while providing practical tips and strategies for combating inequality. The annual NCORE conference scope is comprehensive and includes topics such as institutional change; recruiting and retaining a culturally diverse faculty, staff, and student body; enhancing the quality of life for culturally diverse students on predominantly white campuses; understanding and valuing differences; enhancing teaching and learning in culturally diverse classroom environments; enhancing positive outcomes of cultural diversity on campus; managing and preventing incidents of racial and ethnic conflict on campus; understanding and meeting the unique needs of different racial and ethnic groups on campus; creating valuable linkages between the university and the community; and unique racial and ethnic conditions and experiences. The Access and Diversity Collaborative was created by the College Board to assist colleges and universities in developing and implementing their diversity-related policies in light of core institutional goals and federal nondiscrimination law.

The American Association for Affirmative Action is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of affirmative action as an instrument to fulfill the nation’s promise of equal opportunity. Its mission is to nurture understanding of and offer advice on affirmative action to enhance access and equity in employment, economic and educational opportunities.

A Campus of Difference is an online professional development tool for educators to build respectful and inclusive classrooms.

The Association of American Colleges and Universities Diversity Resources focuses on deploying diversity as an educational asset for all students, and preparing future graduates for socially responsible engagement in a diverse democracy and interdependent worlds.

The Center for Universal Design, established in 1989, was a national research, information, and technical assistance center at North Carolina State University that evaluated, developed, and promoted universal design in housing, public and commercial facilities, and related products. The Center’s mission was to improve the built environment and related products for all users by impacting change in policies and procedures through research, information, training, and design assistance.

The Community College Research Center mission is to conduct research on the major issues affecting community colleges in the United States and to contribute to the development of practice and policy that expands access to higher education and promotes success for all students.Association of American Colleges and Universities Diversity Resources: AACU focuses on deploying diversity as an educational asset for all students, and preparing future graduates for socially responsible engagement in a diverse democracy and interdependent worlds.

The combined vision and mission of the Consortium of Higher Ed LGBT Resource Professionals is to achieve higher education environments in which lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni have equity in every respect. Our goals are to support colleagues and develop curriculum to professionally enhance this work; to seek climate improvement on campuses; and to advocate for policy change, program development, and establishment of LGBT Office/Centers.

Promoting Access for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students: Universal Design

The Southern Poverty Law Center was founded in 1971 as a small civil rights law firm. Today, SPLC is internationally known for its tolerance education programs, its legal victories against white supremacists and its tracking of hate groups. In 1991, Teaching Tolerance began supporting the efforts of K-12 teachers and other educators to promote respect for differences and an appreciation of diversity.
