The Middlesex Community College Wellness Resource Center (WRC) is excited to offer a six-week workshop series designed to help students develop and practice skills to build and maintain strong, meaningful connections. The Connecting with Confidence events will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays in Lowell.

“Communication skills are so important for every aspect of life,” said Amy Mahoney, MCC’s Wellness Counselor. “Being able to communicate their needs in a straightforward and assertive way will be beneficial for relationships, education and employment. Knowing about these skills is one thing, but practicing will help them to build confidence and feel empowered.”

Led by counselors from MCC’s WRC, the workshops will help students navigate their academic, professional and social lives. Over the six weeks, participants will learn and practice skills to engage with others both in personal relationships and professional settings.

The workshops will cover how to start conversations, set healthy boundaries, speak assertively and incorporate other healthy habits needed to connect with confidence. Each session will include opportunities to practice skills with each other.

“Connecting with Confidence is a structured, intentional way of creating the social opportunities our students are seeking,” said Michael Chan, MCC’s WRC Counseling Intern. “From a survey last year, we found students are lonely and looking for more activities to connect. These are skills not necessarily taught elsewhere. Students will have a better idea of what they need to do to accomplish their goals.”

Free for all MCC students, the events will take place on February 4, February 11, February 18, February 25, March 4 and March 11 in the Lowell Cowan Center.
