Interested in pursuing a career in business, Dylan Nguyen, of Dracut, decided to attend Middlesex Community College. The combination of affordable and flexible classes, as well as a positive reputation for the business program, led him to Middlesex. After starting, he found MCC offered access to real-world learning experiences and a commitment to student success that is helping him reach his goals.

“My experience at MCC has been incredibly positive,” Nguyen said. “The supportive faculty, hands-on learning opportunities, and strong sense of community have made my time here valuable and enriching. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had through this school.”

Nguyen has a life-long passion for entrepreneurship and strategic problem-solving. Since he was younger, he has enjoyed finding better ways to improve processes and experiences. In MCC’s business classes, he hones and develops skills by gaining theoretical knowledge and practicing what he learns in his classes.

For one of his class assignments, Nguyen worked on a project to start a small business. This offered him the opportunity to work on his entrepreneurship, financial management, and marketing skills. MCC’s business program has also offered him the chance to attend networking events and business workshops where he has built valuable connections beyond the college.

“Networking and mentorship opportunities have been instrumental in my growth,” Nguyen said. “MCC’s curriculum is practical, with a strong emphasis on real-world applications. The faculty at Middlesex are highly knowledgeable and supportive.”

In addition to taking classes, Nguyen is an active member of the MCC community. As part of the college’s Asian American Connections Center, he attends events and participates in activities with classmates. He also receives guidance and mentorship from staff, which includes Jennifer Nguyen, MCC’s Retention and Wellness Specialist. Nguyen credits Middlesex staff for providing him with insights that have shaped both his personal life and his future career in business.

As a peer mentor, Nguyen assists classmates in navigating the college experience, including with completing coursework, developing studying techniques, and improving time management. Outside of academics, he offers students encouragement to improve their mental well-being or work through challenges. These experiences have given Nguyen the chance to build his leadership and communication skills, as well as his empathy.

“The greatest lesson I’ve learned is the power of active listening,” Nguyen said. “Sometimes, people just want to be heard before they can hear themselves. I’ve also learned how to adjust my communication style to individual personalities and situations, which has made me a more effective mentor.”

After graduating from MCC, Nguyen plans to start a career in business. In a consulting role, he hopes to focus on marketing, sales, and client relationship management. He believes the college has put him on the right track to pursue his dreams.

“MCC has provided me with a strong foundation in business principles, critical thinking skills, and practical experience that will help me succeed in my career,” he said. “These experiences have allowed me to gain hands-on experience, enhance my leadership abilities, and expand my professional network.”
