Middlesex Community College is excited to kick off the Spring 2026 “A World of Music” concert series with a performance by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra (LCO). The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 7 at MCC’s Richard and Nancy Donahue Family Academic Arts Center, Theatre in Lowell.

"We are excited to open the spring series of our 25th season with a concert by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra which features a variety of music by African American artists,” said Carmen Rodríguez-Peralta, MCC’s Chair of Music. “We are grateful that this performance is sponsored in part by a grant from the MCC Foundation."

Conducted by MCC music faculty member Orlando Cela, the LCO will be joined by musicians from Berklee College of Music. The evening will feature works by African American artists across many styles of music, including classical, gospel, jazz, and more.

“For our February concert ‘Black Resilience and Jubilation,’ we’ve assembled a program that celebrates the richness and diversity of the African American musical tradition – from classical to gospel to jazz, and more – in a way that’s both powerful and deeply moving,” Cela said. “This evening reflects our commitment to inclusivity and artistic excellence, and I can’t wait for our community to experience these dynamic works together.”

The LCO will perform a second time at the Academic Arts Center, Theatre at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.

Additional “A World of Music” performances include Women Composers Across Cultures and Centuries at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 12; Liana Paniyeva, Pianist, at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 27; Featuring MCC Alumnus Nathaniel Abreu, Cellist at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 10; and a Student Recital at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4 held at MCC’s Concert Hall on the Bedford Campus.
