RISE Scholars at MCC
Learn About Our RISE Scholars Dual Enrollment Opportunity!
MCC offers a unique program for high school students ages 18 to 21 with intellectual disabilities.
"The RISE Scholars Program at Middlesex Community College, established in 2014, provides
dual enrollment opportunities for high school students with severe intellectual disabilities,
ages 18-21. This initiative reflects MCC's commitment to offering accessible, high-quality
education to a diverse group of students, fostering lifelong learning, and contributing
to the economic, social and cultural vitality of our community. RISE allows students
to experience college life by attending classes, participating in campus activities,
and working to increase their independence in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Through partnerships with local school districts, the program ensures that students
have the resources and support they need to enhance their skills and prepare for future
success, both academically and socially."
Students enrolled in RISE receive:
- Specialized enrollment, registration and academic advising
- Community-based employment and individualized career support
- Educational coaches and peer mentors
- Participation in selected co-curricular events at UMass Lowell
- Full access to MCC clubs, student activities, and academic resources
Students enrolled in RISE work towards increasing:

- Campus Life Involvement
- Competitive Employment Skills

- Wellness and Accomplishment
"RISE is supported by the MAIPSE state-funded grant awarded to Middlesex Community College. Please contact Ed Dunn or your local high school representative for more details on enrollment requirements. Applications are typically due July 30th for Fall enrollment and December 18th for Spring enrollment. Applications must be approved by a high school official in order to apply."
