MCC's Adult Learning Center (ALC) serves students from 33 different countries and is consistently ranked in the top five programs in Massachusetts.

We assist students at the intermediate English-speaking and writing skill level. While we are not an ESOL program, students have found classes help improve their skills.
 

Steps to Enrollment

All students must enroll or re-enroll each semester:
 
  • Complete an ALC Registration Form and take placement tests before attending classes
  • Register at the start of each semester in September and/or January – we offer rolling admission during the Fall and Spring semesters if seats are available
  • We will contact you once we receive your registration form
  • Email any questions to the Adult Learning Center or call 781-280-3662

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Students must:

  • Be age 16 or older (if under 18, please bring an official letter of withdrawal from the last school attended)
  • Not be currently enrolled in school
  • Live or work in Massachusetts

  • September - December and January - May 
  • Classes are not held during public school vacations nor during the summer from June through August
  • Day classes are held 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and combine online and in-person sessions
    • Tuesdays (in person)
    • Wednesdays (online)
    • Thursdays (in person)
  • Evening classes are held 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, online only

  • Take a Reading and Math Proficiency Test before beginning classes at the ALC
  • Access a computer with a keyboard, speaker, microphone and camera
  • Reliable access to the internet
  • Attend and participate in class sessions
  • Take time to complete homework outside of class

To show a serious commitment to your educational and career goals, please:

  • Be on time and attend class regularly
  • Be focused, participate in the classroom, and complete assignments
  • Attend for at least one semester – possibly longer depending on your academic background and goals
  • Maintain high standards of personal behavior

Any student with a pattern of tardiness, poor attendance, and/or disruptive behavior may be removed from the program.

As an ALC our Links student, you have access to many resources both online and through MCC to support their learning and professional goals:

  • Online Practice: English, Math, Computing Skills, and more
  • English Conversation Groups: visit your local library or community center to ask about conversation groups in your community
  • Tutoring: on-campus and e-tutoring through MCC's Academic Centers for Enrichment (ACE)
